Aberrant Superior Pulmonary Vein in a Right Lower Lobe VATS Lobectomy

This video displays the identification and preservation of aberrant superior pulmonary vein during a uniportal VATS right lower lobectomy. The pulmonary vein passed below the bronchus intermedius and tracked back posteriorly into the upper lobe. Its pathway was in the posterior oblique fissure and was posterior to the bronchus intermedius, just lateral to station 7. If the authors had not seen the unexpected vein, it could have easily been damaged when the posterior oblique fissure or station 7-area were dissected. The uniportal VATS approach provides an excellent view, which allowed the authors to identify and preserve the vein. The aberrant vein was seen in retrospect on the CT scan, and is shown at the end of the video.
