Pre-Operative:
• Organization of a "theme" based operating list for the visiting consultant.
• OPC duties including:-
History taking.
Reviewing pre-op investigations including echocardiogram and angio- media.
Reviewing indications for surgery.
Operative:
• Assisting in many adult cardiac surgeries like:-
CABG (on-pump and off-pump).
Mitral valve surgery (replacement and repair).
Tricuspid valve surgery (repair and replacement by tissue valve).
Aortic valve surgery (replacement and repair).
Aortic root surgery (valve sparing procedures, Ross procedure and Freestyle).
Aortic arch and Ascending aortic surgeries.
Ventriculoplasty.
Ventricular reduction surgery.
Ventricular aneurysmorraphy.
Myectomy for HOCM.
Pulmonary endarterectomy.
Surgery for endomyocardial fibrosis.
• Assisting in many congenital heart surgeries like:-
Patent ductus arteriosus division.
Atrial septal defect closure.
Ventricular septal defect closure.
Repair of total and partial anomalous pulmonary venous return.
Correction of tetralogy of fallot.
Repair of truncus arteriosus.
Arterial switch operation.
Atrial switch operation.
Glenn cavopulmonary shunt.
Surgery for double aortic arch and hypoplastic arch repair.
Palliative surgeries (arterial Shunts and pulmonary artery banding).
Coarctatectomy.
Fontan.
• Independently perform some adult and congenital heart surgeries:-
MV replacement (Metallic, Bioprosthetic).
AV replacement (Metallic, Bioprosthetic).
TV replacement and repair.
ASD closure.
VSD closure.
• Performance of adult and congenital heart surgeries under supervision:-
CABG.
MV Repair “simple types”.
AV Repair “simple types”.
Aortic root replacement.
Glenn and BT shunts.
Fallot tetralogy.
Coarctation repair.
Partial AV canal repair.
• Independently perform surgical duties (Experienced-Time efficient) like:-
Heart exposure and cannulation (down to 2.5 kg).
Opening redo cases safely.
BIMA and radial artery harvesting.
Top and bottom end anastomosis in CABG.
Deairing and weaning off CPB.
Hemostasis and closure.
Femoral exposure, cannulation for CPB.
Reopening patients for bleeding and tamponade evacuation.
Evacuation of pericardial effusion.
Rewiring, Dewiring and wounds debridement.
Post-Operative:
Experienced in postoperative management (ITU).
CVP line insertion.
Arterial cannultaion for invasive BP monitoring.
IABP insertion.
Chest tube insertion.
PD cannulae insertion.
Care of infected wounds.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
. Conducting ward and ICU rounds regularly.
. Participating in the audit meeting and morbidity and mortality discussions.
. Participating in the weekly JCC and teaching sessions actively.
. Participating in charity missions at developing countries to do heart surgeries.
