Laparoscopic Total Gastrectomy and Omentectomy with Roux-en-Y Reconstruction

General thoracic surgeons are gaining expertise with minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE). Laparoscopic total gastrectomy, however, remains an uncommon procedure for most general thoracic surgeons. This video demonstrates a laparoscopic total gastrectomy and omentectomy with roux-en-y reconstruction.

The patient was a 61-year-old man who presented with dysphagia, weight loss, and anemia, and he was referred to the authors for investigation of microcytic anemia. Gastroscopy revealed a gastric mass, which a biopsy showed to be a gastric adenocarcinoma. Computed tomography and positron emission tomography showed no metastatic disease. The patient had no postoperative complications and was discharged home on postoperative day seven.
