This is a case of the use of the Artisential VATS Wristed Instruments and also an automated camera holder bringing together two excellent technologies to simulate as closely as possible a robotic lobectomy.
The authors performed a middle lobectomy on a woman with stents who continued clopidogrel and aspirin throughout the perioperative course. The advantages of this method over robotic surgery is that the surgeon is by the bedside, it takes no time to set up, it is clearly much cheaper, and the surgeon still has haptic feedback. The surgeon is also in charge of the camera. The disadvantage is that the instruments are still half VATS, half robotic, so it requires some practice to master, and in this case the authors do not have a 3D VATS camera, which would further increase the similarity between the operations.
