A Mitral Valve Repair Update: Simple, Intuitive, and Physiological Techniques Using Running Sutures (Part I & Part II)

This article proposes a set of new techniques for mitral valve repair that employ a running suture rather than individual cords. They follow landmarks such as papillary muscle tips and free leaflet edge running and commissure so that there is little space left for guessing. These techniques could help to manage variability between surgeons and methodologies.

  1. Dear Richard,
there is no need for reference points. The pattern of the Roman arch is not using any reference points. It’s a default, just like my other techniques. The Roman arch is mainly useful in A2 or P2 prolapse . If you are faced with A1 and/or A3 prolapse (or P1 and/or P3), consider my “Crescent” technique, published in the first on my 2 EJCTS papers. Happy to go on zoom anytime if you’d like.
