Dr. Mara Antonoff is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Associate Program Director for the UT MD Anderson Thoracic Surgery Residency Program in Houston. She is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, having trained in all aspects of cardiothoracic disease, with special concentration on thoracic oncology, lung transplantation, and diseases of the foregut, and an emphasis on minimally invasive surgical therapies. She specializes in Thoracic Surgical Oncology, caring for patients with all types of malignancies in the chest. her most frequent cases involve lung cancer, esophageal cancer, malignancies of the thymus / mediastinum, and cancers from elsewhere in the body that have spread to the lungs.
RESEARCH
Dr. Antonoffâs clinical research interests focus on lung cancer, with particular interest early detection/screening, as well as exploring the impact of patient sex on lung cancer prognosis and therapy. She has additional reserach and clinical interests in pulmonary metastatic disease.  With a long history in surgical education research, she continues these efforts as associate program director for the MD Anderson Thoracic Surgery training program, aiming to improve curricular design and assessment tools in Thoracic Surgical training.
